Finding Student Accommodation in Dublin

Dublin is a popular city to live, work and study and its popularity is growing days after days. However, after the crisis of Covid-19, rente prices have exploded and finding a place to live has become an almost impossible challenge. But don’t worry we are here to advise you !

What kind of student accommodation are there ?

You can choose whatever between a student accommodation On-campus or Off-campus.

On-campus accommodation

I would recommend you to live on campus, mostly if you come as an Erasmus student. Thus, it will be easier to find an accommodation for a short time, you will always be close to class, you will be surrounded by like-minded people and there will be plenty of facilities such as gym class, societies, wifi.... But the prices are generally quite high and be reactive because the space on campus gets snapped up very quickly.

Off-campus accommodation

The private rental market offers a range of housing option from apartments to freestanding houses, while properties and single rooms. And they might be a better option is you have a tiny budget and if you wanna stay longer in Dublin. But becareful to the scams, there are plenty of them in Dublin. Be careful as well when you ask for the price of the rent, because you may also have to pay for electricity, heating and broadband on top of your rent.

Futhermore, you could try the homestays. Dublin colleges are currently encouraging homeowners to rent a room to student and many are doing so. If you're compfortable living with a local family, it could be a great way to learn more about the city's people, culture and language. Moreover, it will keep costs down too. Don't forget to check for the accessibility (bus, daft, train....) because the only bus in Dublin to drive 24/24 is the BUS 39A!

Where can I search for accommodation ?

Real estate is a big deal in DUblin and there's no shortage of websites serving the market. Some have excellent student accommodation offerings too:

- Daft.ie : best way to find a shared room option

- facebookmarket.ie: very useful, be the first to answer but be careful with the scams...
